1. Recommend /,rekə'mend/:

To recommend somebody/something to somebody: giới thiệu, tiến cử (người, vật).

Ví dụ:

Can you recommend me a good English book?

(Bạn có thể giới thiệu cho tôi một quyển sách tiếng Anh hay không?).

Who recommend you for admission to this club?

(Ai đã giới thiệu bạn tham gia vào câu lạc bộ này).

= suggested you, said you were suitable: giới thiệu anh và nói rằng anh phù hợp.

Recommend someone = speak well of: nói tốt về.

Who recommended you to see an eye specialist?

(Ai đã khuyên anh là phải gặp một chuyên gia về mắt).

I can recommend her as a reliable programmer.

(Tôi có thể tiến cử cô là một lập trình viên đáng tin cậy).

'Recommend' còn mang nghĩa khuyên bảo, đề nghị.

Ví dụ:

I recommend you to do what he says.

(Tôi khuyên bạn nên làm theo những điều anh ấy nói).

I recommend that you resign.

(Tôi khuyên ông nên từ chức).

2. Introduce /,intrə'dju:s/:

To introduce someone to someone: giới thiệu ai với ai.

= Present, enable you to meet: giới thiệu, làm cho có thể gặp được.

Ví dụ:

Who introduced you to this here?

(Ai đã giới thiệu bạn đến đây?).

= Made you aware of it/made it aware of you, brought you in as a member: làm cho anh biết về nó/làm cho nó biết về anh.

Let's me introduce myself.

( Hãy để tôi giới thiệu về bản thân).

3. Advise /əd'vaiz/:

To advise somebody against something/doing something: cho ai lời khuyên, khuyên bảo.

Ví dụ:

The doctor advised (me to take) a complete rest.

(Bác sĩ khuyên tôi nghỉ ngơi hoàn toàn).

We advised that they should start early.

(Chúng tôi khuyên họ nên bắt đầu sớm).

You would be well advised to stay indoors.

(Anh nên ở trong nhà thì tốt hơn).

To advise somebody of something: báo cho biết.

Please advise us of the dispatch of the goods/when the goods are dispatched.

(Xin vui lòng cho chúng tôi biết khi nào hàng hóa được gửi đi).
